News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Casey Shomaker. The A&M Consolidated High School senior will graduate Summa Cum Laude, and she's ranked fourteenth in her senior class with a 4.43 GPA.
Casey is a member and captain of the Lady Tiger Volleyball team. She's also a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and the Symphony Belles. Casey won a bronze medal in volleyball at the 2010 Junior Olympics…She's very active in her community with different charities and ministries at her church.
"Casey is a passionate student and she's a passionate volleyball player. I love going watch her…She's in the game every second she's in there…She's on her best game! Every second she's in the classroom she's on her best game."
"I'm also her National Honor Society sponsor. I get comments from other teachers about Casey's leadership. She sets an amazing example for her classmates. She is out a lot of school because of traveling with volleyball; and her work is never late, it's always on time. I've never heard her complain. She will help a fellow teammate that's struggling with class, without being asked. She'll help a classmate with homework."
"Casey has just been a fantastic athlete, I remember when she was a freshman. She came in with just a heart of gold. She works hard in the classroom…One of our top students in the program all the four years she's been here. And she's also a hard worker on the court."
"She's been a great leader for us, she proves to be a great mediator. If there's ever anything going on she's the type of person who the girls feel comfortable going and talking to. She helps them kind of work through and reason through some things. She's been a great communicator for the team, for me. She's been a captain for us now for two years. And has just done a great job in that role."
"I'm a senior at A&M Consolidated! I play volleyball for the Lady Tiger volleyball team. I really like playing volleyball because it's a fast sport…and I really like school! My favorite subject is science."
"Being a scholar athlete is definitely difficult at times. It's a little hard when you get home at 6pm and you still have dinner and extracurricular activities…but you still have to get your homework done. You have to learn to get your priorities straight and that your schoolwork should come first before any fun activities. It's really just given me an opportunity to learn how to effectively manage my time."
Congratulations to Casey Shomaker of A&M Consolidated High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
