News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Kendall Smith. The Burton High School senior has a 3.75 Grade point average and ranks 2nd in her class. Kendall is the class president, a member of FCCLA and Beta Club. She is a member of LYO at St. Paul Lutheran of Rehburg, attended Bluebonnet Girls State, also the manager of the boys basketball and baseball teams.
“She’s organized; she’s on task all the time. She helps other students, so it’s not like she’s just here for herself. She has those attributes like I would see in a teacher also because she’s always trying to help someone and along with a great personality. She’s not scared to step up in front of anybody and explain to them how she feels on any subject. She’s just a great student.”
Athletically, Kendall plays volleyball for the Lady Panthers and is the only senior on the team.
“It’s a pleasure to have Kendal. She’s an amazing young woman. I’ve had her now for two years and as a senior she’s my only senior and she’s stepped into the leadership role. You can tell her presence on the floor and you can tell her presence on the bench, because she doesn’t play all the way around. However, when she’s not on the floor you can still feel that she’s there. She controls the court for me, making sure all the girls stay pumped, making sure all of the girls are excited to be there and that we stay focused.”
“Because the girls look up to me and I get to help them out a lot. It’s also a lot of fun because, again, they look up to me. I’m happy that I’m the only senior because they include me in everything and it’s a lot of fun. If I do something kinda wrong, it’s like ‘oh goodness’. They shouldn’t do it or if I do something right, it makes them want to that. It makes them want to do a really good jon.
Kendall plans on furthering her education, and plans on being a nurse.
