It’s time to crown this week’s Classroom Champion. For that, we make the trip to Allen Academy and meet Sarah Brien.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate Sarah Brien. The Allen Academy senior has a 4.47 GPA and is in the running to become the valedictorian of her class. Sarah’s the editor in chief of the school newspaper, president of the student council, a member of the theater club and the school chess club. She was named a National Merit Commended Student, awarded the College Board AP Scholar Award, and is a level one certified veterinary assistant.
“She is a driven student,” says teacher Earl Pullen. “Whether it’s academically, athletically, or socially she is driven. She sets very high goals for herself and one thing I always admire about her is the fact that she accomplishes her goals. It really doesn’t matter what kind of activities she’s involved in. You’re going to get the same effort every single time. It’s just what you come to expect from her.”
Athletically, Sarah runs cross country, plays volleyball, basketball, soccer, golf and is a varsity cheerleader and has lettered in all six sports. She's received medals at all school cross country meets this season and named the MVP of two volleyball tournaments.
"She's a smart player. She's able to compensate based on her technical skills. It's not given to everybody, but it's amazing to me how she's able to just make that adjustment...that’s the main thing I keep in mind for Sarah. Her decision making and to lead the fame and make the correct plays," says her soccer coach.
"I just try to provide leadership by example and I always want the underclassmen to know they can come to me on and off the field with anything they have. I try not to be intimidating to them and I always want to be there listen to them and lead by example."
Sarah is still applying to schools, but Texas A&M, Rice and Notre Dame are among her top options.
Congratulations to Sarah Brien of Allen Academy. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
