It’s time now to crown another Classroom Champion and this week we congratulate Nathan Thomson of Saint Michael's Episcopal School.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Nathan Thomson. The Saint Michael's Episcopal School senior has 3.24 Grade Point Average and is currently studying French, Latin and Greek.

Nathan is a member of the basketball, cross country, soccer, and tennis teams. He has been selected to the All District team in basketball and baseball. Ryder's also a member of the National Beta Club, FFA, and the president of the Student Council. Ryder has won several awards for his performances in UIL One Act Plays; including the Zone Best Actor Award. He's also very active in his community and his church.

“He’s absolutely a leader in the classroom. He will help everybody with their problems…Even when he’s not at the board explaining something. I’ll see him lean over and explain something to the person sitting next to him. Or he’s always participating when I’m not calling on him actively. He just encourages everyone so much…He always brings fun to Calculus class, which I think is great.”

“Nathan is a basketball player! He’s a real go getter, he never stops. He’s the kind of player who will keep going until the whistle blows…I’m trying to get that out of all my players.” “This is Nathan’s first year as captain, we had a really good captain last year. Nathan’s filling his shoes real well. He’s leading drills, he make sure the rest of the guys are keeping up with what we are supposed to be doing.”

“Being a scholar athlete is hard, but sometimes it’s actually easy. It depends on how much homework the teacher gives you. But in times of difficulty, where we get a lot of homework and practices go really late…I basically have to balance times between study halls and lunch periods to do my homework. So that I don’t have to do as much homework after school.”

Nathan plans on attending Polytechnic Institute of New York University and majoring in Bio-chemical Engineering.
