Classroom Champions 1/5 - Anna Walker

It’s time now to crown another Classroom Champion and this week we congratulate Anna Walker of Saint Joseph Catholic School.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Lindsey McGill. The Saint Joseph Catholic School senior has a 4.24 Grade Point Average and is ranked third in her class.

Anna is a member of the volleyball team and she's also the team captain of the basketball team. Anna was named Honorable Mention in Basketball, she also made the All-Tournament team in the Brazos Christian Basketball Tournament. She's also president of the National Honor Society, a Eucharistic minister at her church, and she's also very active in campus ministry at her school.

“I taught her last year in pre-calculus honors. I'm teaching her this year in Calculus honors and I can't say enough good things about her. She is an excellent role model for her peers in the classroom, as well as on the basketball or volleyball court. She has made straight “A's” this year, last year in pre-calculus. I think she's an awesome awesome...one of my best students I've ever had.

“Anna, I found her to be a leader. I've coached her the last two years, she's a leader on and off the court. She's always on honor roll, as long as I've known her, she's been on honor roll. And she's consistently responsible with her work. She makes sure her work is done on time. And I've heard nothing but good things about her from her teachers. As far as on the court, she leads by example in terms of how hard she works. But she also encourages the other players well, and she takes charge on the court. What is what we want in a player.”

“At first, being a scholar athlete hasn't been easy. But the great thing about playing sports has really helped me manage my time. At first I was never able to balance working hard in school and going to practice and stuff...I used to have trouble with it when I was a freshman and sophomore. But over the years I've learned to manage all my time, I've learned to set times to study and do my homework, and then also times to be focused and driven in practice and games.”

Anna plans on attending college, and majoring in management.

Congratulations to Anna Walker of Saint Joseph Catholic School!
