News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Chessa Gesh. The Navasota High School senior has a 4.83 Grade point average and ranks 2nd in her class.

Chessa is the Class President, a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and One Act Play. She was named the top student in both Pre-AP geometry and Pre-AP English, is a member of the NHS choir and participates in the Youth Praise Team and Youth Leadership Team at her church.

Gesch's teachers say she's a leader. "Chessa's truly a pleasure to have in class. She comes everyday ready to work, much like she does in athletics, she's a leader in the classroom. She's a leader everywhere she goes...you can tell down the hallway, she has an influence on the students of our student body. She does a good job of leading by example and I think kids buy into that."

Athletically, Chessa plays basketball and has also been a member of the track and cross country teams. She is one of four seniors on the Lady Rattlers basketball team, but is currently having to watch her teammates from the bench because of an arm injury.

Her basketball coach, Tommy Gates says, "Chessa has a unflagging desire just to be the best at everything she participates in and undertakes, which in her case is a lot of things, not just athlettically and acdemically, but all the social things that she does. She just works harder than anybody else and you know, hard work and enthusiasm and passion are the things she brings to us and those things are very contagious."

"This year I've really just tried to focus on having a positive leadership influence. We want to leave and impact so that those girls have a positive influence and that we're not just yelling at them or harping on them, telling them that they're doing something wrong, but that we're leaving a positive impact on them, where they'll be able to do that in the future. They learn how to be good leaders and encourage their teammates, rather than just criticizing them or telling them what they're doing wrong," says Gesch.

Chessa plans on attending Texas A&M University and majoring in mechanical engineering.

Congratulations to Chess Gesch of Navasota High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
