Classroom Champions 4/07- Christy Wellman

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Christy Wellman. The Centerville High School Senior has a 3.89 Grade Point Average and ranks 4th in her class. Christy is a member of the National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Student Council and Teen Summit. She was named to Who's Who Among American High School Students and is a member of the future Chamber of Commerce.

"She has great determination even when things get tough for her. She doesn't give up. She always keeps trying. I've seen her grow into a fine young adult. I think that she's got the characteristics of someone who's going to be a great leader when she goes on to pursue whatever she does in life," says teacher, Lisa Noley.

Athletically, Christy plays Volleyball, Softball and runs track. She was named First Team All District and the 2010 Playoff MVP in Softball and was a state qualifier in Volleyball for three years in a row.

"Christy is an outstanding player. She's got a God-given talent. She's a leader on the program. She's a great hitter. Out in the field, she catches for us and she really leads our defense in that position," says softball coach Lonny Wright.

"I try to be loud and try to make sure that everyone knows what they're supposed to do at all times and when they don't or when they mess up, I don't jump down their throat. I'm just like, 'Hey, it's alright...you've got it.," sayd Christy.

Christy has signed a letter of intent to play for Brookhaven College in Dallas. They are four time Division 3 National Champions and the 2010 Conference Champions. She plans to major in Forensic Science or Psychology.

Congratulations to Christy Wellman of Centerville High School, this week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
