News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Ty Schlottmann. The Brenham High School senior has a 3.53 Grade Point Average and is a member of the All District Academic Team as well as the National Honor Society. He works with Elementary School students, helping young children learn to read through the HOSTS program. Ty was selected as a Prom Sophomore Server by the faculty and was a Boy's State Delegate.
"Ty is a great student. It's fun to have him in class. He has a good attitude and he's great to work with. I think he'll be successful because he's a leader. He shows initiative and he does great work," says teacher Barnay Glaesmann.
Athletically, Ty has been part of very successful teams at Brenham, In 2009, he was part of the football team that advanced to the Class 4A Division One Championship Game and in 2010 was a member of the Cub Baseball team that won the Class 4A State Championship. As the Quarterback, Ty received numerous All District and All Brazos Valley honors as well as being named Offensive MVP. He was also named to the Houston Area Baseball Coaches' Association All State Team and was named First Team All District Pitcher.
"We expect him to do well on the mound, but the leadership part... he leads by example. He works hard. He runs everything hard. He does everything hard and when the other players see that, they know that's what they're supposed to be doing. It's also showing them the success he's had. We try to preach that hard work is the main way to succeed and when you look at Ty Schlottmann, you see that he works hard at everything he does," says Coach Jim Long.
"I think through all the sports that I've played just help me build stronger character, taught me to never give up and to just trust the teammates that I'm with- that's the main thing. Not only myself can bring wins to the team, but it takes everyone on the team to get wins and teamwork is very important," says Ty.
Ty plans on attending Texas A&M University, where he will be pitching for the Aggies. While at A&M, he plans on majoring in Sports Management.
Congratulations to Ty Schlottmann of Brenham High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
