Classroom Champions 4/19 - Katie Gilbert

It’s time now to crown another Classroom Champion and this week we congratulate Katie Gilbert of North Zulch High School.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion Katie Gilbert. The North Zulch High School senior currently has a 3.6 grade point average, and is the salutatorian of her class.

Katie is the starting shortstop for the Lady Bulldawgs, and she was a setter on the volleyball team last fall. She was selected to the All-State Team in volleyball and softball as a junior. She was also the Defensive MVP in softball and named the Setter of the Year in her district. Academically, she’s Vice-President of the Student Council, member of the National Honor Society, FFA, and the Beta Club. Katie is also very active with volunteer work in her community.”

“I have been Katie’s English teacher for three years, and she’s an extremely conscientious student. She works hard in the classroom as well as out of the classroom. She’s involved in numerous athletic events…And being involved in those does not keep her from making excellent grades. She’s in the top ten percent of her graduating class.”

“Katie takes a lot of pride of her performance in the classroom. She’s gonna stick with something and work really hard at it until she finds the success she wants. I think that’s a big part of the reason she excels so much in the classroom, We see follow through onto the field; that work ethic and that desire to do well translates in her performance in her sports, and as an athlete also."

“Being a scholar athlete is a responsibility that not everybody can handle. And if you can handle it, it’s the best time of your life. You end up making great memories with memories that you’ve grown up with. And it teaches you what you need to do to keep pursuing a good career. It gives you the reputation that you need to go on and go further. You learn skills that you can’t learn if you’re not in sports, it just helps you overall.”

Katie plans on attending Texas A&M University and majoring in kinesiology.

Congratulations to Katie Gilbert of North Zulch High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
