News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Morgan Maldonado. The Somerville High School senior head a 3.1 Grade Point Average and ranks tenth in her class. Morgan is the 4-H President, the Vice President of Interact and the Drum Major of the Yegua band. She is active in her church youth group and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council.
"Her attitude...everything about her... when you're around her, you feel happy. She's a go-getter. She won't quit until the end and that's one thing I really love about her," says teacher Joshephine Reese. "She uses it in the classroom and she also uses it on the field. She cares about people. Being the band Drum Major, she helped to keep the band in line. She's just an all-around really conscientious, caring student."
Athletically, Morgan plays volleyball and softball. She was offensive player of the year in 2010 in softball and was named to the Academic All District team for both softball and volleyball.
"She's a leader of the ball club, of course, being a senior. She would be. We definitely need someone to pick up that leadership role and Morgan is the one that does that for us. She's a joy to coach," says Coach Marvin Struck.
"I just try to be the first one out on the field or hustling or if I see a teammate down, I try to pick them up, to get them back on their feet. It's not about just one person. There's a bunch of other people that have to come together as a team to work as one," says Morgan.
Morgan plans on attending Blinn College and trying out for the softball team.
Congratulations to Morgan Maldonado of Somerville High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
