News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion, Kaitlyn Zamzow. The Franklin senior has a 3.98 grade point average and ranks third in her class.

This year, Kaitlyn was honored with the President's Volunteer Service Award and the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership awards this year. She has served as president of the Wheelock 4-H Club for the past five years and is currently vice-president of the senior class. Kaitlyn is also a part of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.

"She is your dream student. In the classroom she does a really good job, she's very much a leader...she's very diligent, very conscientious. She performs in the classroom as well as gets her work done on her own."

Athletically, Kaitlyn plays softball and runs cross country. She's been named Pitcher of the Year for the past two years and was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association's Honorable Mention softball team last year. She was also honored with the Cross Country Leadership Award this year, an award that says a lot about Kaitlyn's character.

"She's one of those quiet leaders. She's one of those leaders that doesn't always say a lot, but she does the right thing when she's supposed to. Even if she's not saying a whole lot from the mound, her pitching speaks a lot for her."

"Athletics has provided me with leadership skills. You know, just being out here and being the leader on the softball team. I like the challenge. I like pushing myself to be better."

Kaitlyn plans on attending Hendrix College in Arkansas where she will continue playing softball.
