LUFKIN, Texas – The Blinn softball team’s season came to an abrupt end here Friday afternoon.
The Buccaneers lost 8-2 to Trinity Valley Community College in a win-or-go-home game at the Region XIV Conference Tournament. The Bucs finish their 2014 campaign 29-19.
Blinn took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a Sydney Wellmann double that scored Peyton Webb, but Trinity Valley was quick to respond in the top of the second to tie the game at 1.
Though Blinn had chances to pull ahead in the middle innings, it was the Lady Cardinals who seized the opportunity with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth. Trinity Valley bombed a three-run home run in the sixth and used a squeeze bunt to extend its lead to 8-1.
Blinn scored a lone run in the seventh before Trinity Valley ended the game.
