Sam Houston managed just two shots on target as the Bearkats lost 4-0 to an Illinois State team that made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. The Kats will host Prairie View Sunday at 6:30 p.m. as they search of their first win of the season.
A pair of late goals by Illinois State made the match appear to be lopsided. The Bearkats trailed just 1-0 for the first 70 minutes of the match and were only down 2-0 with less than seven minutes remaining.
Sam Houston goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton’s goal was peppered with shots by the Redbirds. She faced 15 total shots and was called upon to make a pair of saves in the match.
The Kats were only able to manage five shots in the match, forcing two saves from Illinois State ‘keeper Aryn Newsom.
The match started two hours later than originally scheduled because of thunder storms in College Station.
