HUNTSVILLE, WALKER COUNTY Sam Houston junior center Angela Beadle has added another honor to her list of awards for an outstanding season during 2013-14.
This time, the honor includes the 6-3 Austin product’s success in the class room.
Beadle has been named as one of 10 student-athletes selected to the 2014 Academic All-Southland Conference women’s basketball squad.
A kinesiology major, Beadle posted a 3.37 semester grade point average last fall and holds a 3.06 overall GPA in her five semesters as a Bearkat.
Beadle, a second team All-Southland honoree this year, led the Bearkats in both scoring and rebounding with 458 points and 300 boards this season.
Beadle ranked among the top 10 in the Southland in four categories. She ended the year second in rebounds (10.3), fourth in blocked shots (47), sixth in scoring (15.8) and seventh in field goal percentage (.506).
She scored in double figures in 26 of the Bearkats’ 29 games this season. She also posted 17 double figure rebound performances.
Beadle completed her junior season ranked sixth in SHSU career rebounds (677) and 17th in all-time Bearkat scoring (858).
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors from each Southland Conference university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
