HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Sam Houston State senior Deveney Wells-Gibson has been named as Southland Conference volleyball “Offensive Player of the Week” Monday.
The honor marks the fourth time in her Bearkat career for her to earn league “Player of the Week” selection.
Wells-Gibson was named Most Valuable Player at the 26th Sam Houston State Invitational after leading the Bearkats to a 4-0 record and the team championship.
The San Antonio, Texas (Churchill HS), product led Sam Houston with 25 kills in a win over previously unbeaten Bakersfield and 22 kills in a win over Southeastern Conference opponent Mississippi State.
Wells-Gibson totaled 79 kills in 15 sets over the weekend and had a hitting percentage of .248 while recording five aces and five assists.
The outside hitter is a first team preseason All-Southland selection in 2014 after earning all-league honors both as a sophomore and junior. In 2012, after leading the Bearkats to the conference championship, she was named as Southland “Player of the Year.”
