Shelby Lancaster, senior right-handed pitcher from Sam Houston, has been named as Southland Conference Softball “Hitter of the Week.”
Lancaster picks up her first award of the season after having a hand in three of Sam Houston’s four victories last week. The Bearkats defeated No. 12 ranked Baylor 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday and swept a three-game series with Lamar on Saturday and Sunday.
The Cardinals came into the series in first place in the Southland.
In the victory over the Bears, Lancaster shut out Baylor as SHSU’s starting pitcher for 7.2 innings before being relieved.
Lancaster threw a complete-game shutout Saturday against the Cardinals to help the Bearkats to a 1-0 victory. She came back in relief in the third inning of the series finale to earn the victory in an 8-3 win to complete the sweep.
Lancaster finished the week with seven strikeouts in 14.1 innings with an impressive 0.36 ERA. The senior limited opponents to a .220 batting average during her time in the circle.
Sam Houston returns to action this weekend against Northwestern State in a Southland Conference three-game series Saturday and Sunday in Natchitoches, La.
