The Sam Houston State women swept the conference’s weekly track & field awards as senior Alyssa Dooley and junior Adrienne Quillin were named Southland Conference Women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announce Wednesday.
The honors come after the Bearkats worked double-time with action at the 87th Texas Relays in Austin and the Victor Lopez Invitational in Houston last weekend.
Dooley earns the honor after inking her name into the SHSU record book twice including once with a time of 4:28.81 in the 1500 meter run and again as the anchor in the 1600 sprint medley relay that captured a school-record time of 3:55.68.
Quillin secured two school-records in her own fashion first with a toss of 183 ft. 3 inches in the hammer throw at the Texas Realys then in an encore performance of 186 ft. 6 inches at the Victor Lopez Classic.
The junior from Houston (Klein Forest, H.S.) holds the conference’s top spot in her event by over 13 feet.
The awards come in just the second weekend of outdoor action for the Bearkats who will look to add on to their collection when they compete in Corpus Christi at the Islander Dash on Saturday.
