HUNTSVILLE - Last season’s leading scorer for the Bearkats, midfielder Mariah Titus, has been named to the 2014 preseason All-Southland first-team, the league office announced Wednesday. Goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton and midfielder Shelby McDaniel appear on the second team.
Titus played in every match for Sam Houston last season and made 17 starts. She scored eight goals from the midfield, including three game winners. Her 39 total shots led the team.
Hambleton started 20 of 21 games in 2013 and recorded six shutouts, which were the second most in the league. Her 113 total saves was the fourth highest total in the league and the 5.65 saves per game was fifth-best in Southland
McDaniel is the creative force in the midfield for the Bearkats. She played in 20 games and started 16 as last season. McDaniel led the team with five assists and also scored two goals, including one game winner.
Stephen F. Austin, the defending Southland Conference regular-season, had six selections on the 2014 preseason all-conference teams. Southeastern Louisiana also had six named to the teams, including three first teamers.
The Kats were behind only SFA and Southeastern with three selections.
