RALEIGH, North Carolina — A water-soaked course and a postponement due to rain did not dampen the No. 4 seed Texas A&M men’s golf team Saturday as it ended the first two rounds of the NCAA Raleigh Regional in fourth place, positioning the Aggies for another trip to the NCAA Championship.

The Aggies (284-281=565) sit at three-under for the event as golfers returned to the links Saturday to complete the suspended opening round and take their second turn on Lonnie Poole Golf Course. Georgia Tech is currently leading the regional with an impressive team score of 28-under through two rounds, followed by Washington (-12) and Kentucky (-8).

Florida State (-1) holds fifth place, while Wake Forest (+5), Minnesota (+5), South Alabama (+6), Texas Tech (+8), Memphis (+8), Mercer (+9), Rice (+11) and Bethune-Cookman (+24) trail consecutively.

The top five teams in the regional advance to NCAA Championship which is scheduled for May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas. Additionally, the highest-placing individual who is not a member of an advancing team will also earn a trip to nationals.

Leading the way for the Aggies was junior Greg Yates (70-70=140, -2), who was three-under after make the second-round turn, to finish the day in a tie for ninth. Following closely is sophomore Adrià Arnaus (71-70=141, -1), who is just one stroke back and tied for 11th.

“Greg had a great day,” Texas A&M men’s golf head coach J.T. Higgins said. “He birdied three of his last six holes for a tremendous finish. He’s having a nice tournament. Really all the guys are playing well and it’s been a great team effort. That’s what it’s going to take to advance.”

Sophomore Andrew Lister (73-69=142, E) shot two-under par during the second round to head into the third round tied for 18th. Sophomore Ben Crancer (71-72=143, +1) and senior Johannes Veerman (72-74=146, +4) rounded out the A&M contingency tied for 28th and 42nd, respectively.

“We’re in a good position to advance to nationals but we’ve got to go out and take care of business tomorrow,” Higgins said. “We need to stick to our game plan and attack the par-fives as well as take advantage of the shorter holes. Hopefully, we can put a little distance between us and the teams behind us and climb up the leaderboard. The guys are playing great. They’re confident and poised to have a great final round tomorrow.”

The third and final round of the regional will begin Saturday morning at 7:50 am (CT). The Aggies will be paired with Florida State and Wake Forest and will tee off from the No. 1 box. Live scoring for the event is available at GolfStat.com.
