VICTORIA, Texas -- Behind a two homerun debut from designated hitter Logan Nottebrok, the Brazos Valley Bombers (13-5) shut out the Victoria Generals (12-5) and regained a half-game hold over first place in the Texas Collegiate League.
“There was a lot of barrel all night, especially with Logan Nottebrok putting a charge into the ball along with a quality start by Zach Girrens keeping us in the game,” said Curtis Dixon, Bombers head coach.
The Bombers got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after a single by center fielder Matt Hilston was followed by Nottebrok’s first homerun of the game, marking the first Bombers home run of the season. The next inning the Bombers took a 4-0 lead thanks to a pair of doubles by third basemen Hunter Hagler and left fielder Ford Moore.
The Bombers would add another run in the sixth, and Nottebrok would cap the team’s 14-hit offensive outburst with a solo shot in the seventh to cement the Bombers’ victory.
The game marked Nottebrok’s debut with the Bombers after the 6-foot-3, 225 pound slugger lead Texas A&M in homeruns with eight on the season.
“After sitting out, you start to get the itch of wanting to get back on the field,” Nottebrok said. “Taking batting practice felt pretty good and getting the first [at bat] out of the way was pretty nice—luckily it was a home run.”
Thursday, the Bombers return home to play the Woodlands Strykers (6-11) at 7:05 p.m. at Cellucor Field. The game will mark the first of a four game home stand for the team.
