BRYAN, Texas -- On the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the Brazos Valley Bombers hosted a post game fireworks show presented by FedStar Credit Union after their 10-2 blowout win over the Victoria Generals. With the win, the Bombers reclaim first place in the Texas Collegiate League by half a game.
The Bombers followed up a two-hit Thursday night performance with an 11-hit offensive explosion in their rematch with the Generals, jump started by a triple from designated hitter Hunter Haley in the bottom of the first that scored second baseman Jimmy Norris.
“I was seeing the ball [well] and I got a couple of good pitches to hit,” Haley said after going 4-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base.
The Bombers added three insurance runs in the third to extend their lead to 5-0 on a pair of singles from Haley and left fielder Dane Steinhagen. The Generals would attempt to generate some momentum late in the game, scoring two runs in the top of the eighth. Their efforts would prove too little too late however, as the Bombers cruised to an easy victory.
Bombers starter Garrett Harris put in in a solid six inning performance, striking out six and surrendering just one hit. Harris has yet to give up a run in his 11 total innings of work this season.
The Bombers now embark on their second road trip of the season, beginning with a two-game series against the East Texas PumpJacks starting Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Driller Park in Kilgore, Texas.
