The Junior League District 33 Baseball Title was claimed by Bryan National after the team went undefeated through the tournament.
In the championship game, Johnny Castillo and Elias Chavarria combined for nine of the team's 24 hits and drove in six runs apiece. Castillo went 5 for 5 with a pair of doubles, reaching on a walk in his other plate appearance. Chavarria was 4 for 6 with two doubles. National had six runs in the first inning, eight runs in the second inning, 16 runs in the third inning and three in the fourth.
Five other National players produced multi-hit games, with Jaime Arias going 4 for 5 while driving in three runs. John Heritage collected three hits, while Austin Hernandez, A.J. Serna and Dayton Stiner each knocked two hits for National.
Pitchers for the game were Dayton Stiner, Dillon Ward, Austin Hernandez, and Sergio Cacho. Catcher John Heritage was the top defensive player for National, making a nice running catch on a foul pop-up and throwing out a runner attempting to steal second and third. The game was called after the fifth inning because of the 10 run rule.
Bryan National will face Lufkin in their first game of the sectionals tournament on July 11th starting at 4 p.m. at Fireman's Park in Brenham, Texas. The other two teams in the tournament are Elgin and La Grange.
