HORSESHOE BAY, Texas -- While it was not a surprise to see David Von Hoffmann and Rufus Brijalba in the winner's circle following Tuesday's final round of the Stewart Title Texas Pro-Assistant at Horseshoe Bay, the team from Spanish Oaks had to ward off a host of challengers to come out on top. This popular event on the Southern Texas PGA Tournament Calendar features teams of two professionals from the same club, with clubs from Northern Texas PGA also joining their peers from the southern part of the state. Professionals compete in a 36 hole best ball format, with all competitors playing Horseshoe Bay's Ram Rock and Apple Rock courses during the two day event.
After round one, Von Hoffmann and Brijalba were tied for the lead at 65 with the Tangle Ridge team of Mark Viskozki and Thomas Devanna as well as the Gleneagles team of Tim Brown and Brian McDaniel. One shot back at 66 was the team of Casey Renner and Lance Ratliff from Palo Duro Creek.
Tuesday's final round saw a lot of movement as both courses produced lower scores. Playing with Von Hoffmann and Brijalba, Renner and Ratliff posted a 68 to equal their playing partners for the day, but falling one short of their two day total to finish second. The Clubs of Kingwood team of Darrell Fuston and Brooks Maak posted a 67 for the day, moving them up to a solo third finish.
Three teams tied for fourth including John Sikes and Brock Vasu (Hollytree CC), Brad Lardon and Jamie Christianson (Miramont CC), and Mark Viskozki and Thomas Devanna (Tangle Ridge). Rounding out the top twelve were the teams of Jake McGuffey and Gregory Wood (Cascades); Jeff Hughes and Seth Mundell (Brownwood CC); Reid Parrish and Zach Monson (River Crest CC; Greg Beran and Steve Young (Midland CC); Ryan Polzin and Mark Duranski (Royal Oaks CC) and Greg Morrison and Shane Pearce (Hurricane Creek CC).
Players enjoyed the EZ Go Putting Contest at Whitewater Creek on Monday evening, with Philip Bleakney and Keith Coppedge from Golf Club of Dallas earning the win over a trio of teams.
Special thanks to Horseshoe Bay Resort for being phenomenal hosts and to Stewart Title, E-Z-Go and Bushnell for their support of the 2014 Texas Pro-Assistant.
