The Sassy Strikers are the Youth Level 1 competitive cheer team from Thunder Elite Cheerleading, Gymnastics & Dance. The team consists of 15 athletes from all over the Brazos Valley. The girls began their season together in May of 2013. Over the summer and early fall, the girls learned their competition routine and perfected skills under the guidance of the excellent coaching staff at Thunder Elite. These athletes commit to a year-round practice schedule, sweating countless hours in the gym each week, over vacations, and breaks.
The competitive season and long road to nationals started in October of 2013. These girls competed at a regional level event in Garland, Texas and took home 1st place. Their next stop was Houston in November for a NCA regional classic where they came in 2nd. In December, they competed twice at regional events in Houston both times not only earning 1st place, but also Grand Champion for Level 1. This means they outscored all of the level 1 teams of any age group.
In January, the Sassy Strikers headed to Galveston to compete in a Mini-Nationals. After two days of competition, they came in 1st and took home another Grand Champion prize and their first set of jackets. In order to prepare for the largest cheer competition in the country, the girls competed at two more national level competitions in February coming in a very close 2nd at both and the squad their support team are very proud of what they had accomplished thus far.
The girls spent the next two weeks with the goal of putting on their best show of the season at NCA Nationals in Dallas. NCA is the largest cheerleading competition in the country. Held in Dallas the 1st weekend of March, the event hosts more than 1,000 teams consisting of more than 25,000 athletes. The Sassy Strikers competed against 16 other teams from across the country and took home the NCA National Title on March 1, 2014. As one of the highest scoring champions, they received a bid to “The Summit,” along with the Thunder Elite Force and Thunder Elite Shock Teams earlier this season.
The Summit is an all levels championship featuring the best of the best teams in the United States with only a select few teams getting the opportunity to compete at Disney World. The competition will
be held May 3-4, 2014 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. It will be televised live on the ESPN 3 Network.
The Sassy Strikers need help to make their way to Florida. This squad has one month to raise $15,000 to cover the competition and travel cost of the 15 athletes. These girls have worked incredibly hard for the honors they have received. They are more than just a team, they are a family and are working together to ensure everyone’s fees are covered. The Strikers are looking for help by donation and sponsors. Those who donate at least $250 will be considered a sponsor and will get their company name on the back of the Sassy Striker's competition t-shirts. These shirts will be worn both at the competition and here locally by athletes and their parents/family. There will also be a Spoons profit share set up for Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
