CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Top-seeded North Carolina scored three goals in the opening 32 minutes of the match en route to a 6-2 victory over Tennessee in the Round of 16 of the 2006 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament Saturday night at Fetzer Field before 2,145 fans. Six different Tar Heel players scored in the match as UNC built a 6-0 lead before the Lady Volunteers responded with a pair of goals in the final six minutes of the match.

UNC freshman Tobin Heath had a pair of assists for UNC, while freshman striker Whitney Engen and senior forward Heather O'Reilly each had a goal and an assist in the match. Other Carolina goals were scored by Yael Averbuch, Elizabeth Guess, Ali Hawkins and Ashley Moore.

UNC (24-1) has prevailed in 24 straight matches and the Tar Heels will now play No. 13-ranked Texas A&M (17-5-2) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time at Fetzer Field. The Aggies are the No. 2 seed in the top left quadrant of the NCAA Tournament bracket while the Tar Heels are seeded No. 1 in the quadrant as well as overall in the tournament.

The Aggies advanced to the quarterfinals Friday night with a 2-1 win over Virginia and they come to Chapel Hill as the only team to beat UNC this season. Texas A&M won the season opener between the two teams on August 25th in 1-0 double overtime thriller at College Station, Texas.
