HUNTSVILLE -- Jay Newman of Klein Oak High School, a nationally ranked hurdler, has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State and run track for Bearkat head coach Curtis Collier.

Newman ranked eighth in the 300 meter hurdles in Texas last season with a time of 37.46 seconds. He was the runner-up in the Texas Class AAAA 300 hurdles and was Class AAAA Region III champion. His best time in the 110 hurdles is 14.55 seconds.

This spring, Newman stands 13th on the national list of returning high
school 300 meter hurdles. He is ranked third among returning 300 hurdlers in Texas and stands number one in Class AAAA.

"Jay Newman is a quality young man who can make an impact on our program.

We're excited to have him sign with the Bearkats," Collier said.
