Sam Houston State Baseball Announced Fall Signings

HUNTSVILLE -- Nine high school seniors and three junior college players have signed letters-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State and play baseball for Bearkat Head Coach Mark Johnson.

"With each of our signees, we matched up with some great baseball
programs,"Johnson said. " I believe the response was a result of not only the dedicated hard work that our recruiting coordinator Jim Blair and pitching coach Justin Hill put forth, but also was reflective of our new, state-of-the-art baseball facility, as well as the aggressive approach of support from the administration."

The following are the names of the student-athletes who have signed a
National Letters of Intent to play for the Bearkats.

Malcolm Crowley INF Dickenson , TX Galveston Junior College 5'10" 175
In his first year at Galveston College Malcolm hit .318 with 13 doubles and stole 18 bases. Malcolm carried an on-base percentage of .498 while driving in 35 runs. For his efforts he was an All-Conference selection and was selected to play in the 2006 JUCO All-Star game this fall in Waco . Malcolm was a 3-time All-District selection at Dickenson High School .

Justin Jackson P/1B Magnolia, TX Magnolia HS 6'4" 185
Justin has been a 3 year starter for Dale Westmoreland at Magnolia HS.
Justin was a participant for Team Texas who won the 2006 Sunbelt Classic Baseball Tournament in McAlister , OK this past summer. Justin was also invited to play at the Texas Scouts Association game at Ameriquest Field in the summer of 2006. During the fall and summer Jerad plays with the Houston Heat.

Zach Neal RHP Flower Mound, TX Flower Mound HS 6'2" 190
Last year at Flower Mound, Zach was 7-3 with a 1.86 era helping him to an All-District selection. Over 71 inning of work he compiled 66 strikeouts while walking only 7 hitters. Zach had 2 play-off wins to propel his team to the Regional Quarterfinals. During the summer Zach played for the Dallas Mustangs.

Daniel Nottebart LHP Houston , TX Cypress Falls HS 6'3 180
Daniel was a 1 st Team All-District selection in 2006 for head coach Carl
McClosky. He was voted Team MVP after going 4-2 on the mound with a 2.28 ERA. Daniel recorded 45 strikeouts in 40 innings of work while hitting a .370 clip. During the summer and fall Daniel plays with the Houston Heat.

Logan Powell OF Gatesville , TX Temple Junior College 5'10" 170
In high school Logan was named to the Super Centex Team both his junior and senior seasons at Gatesville High School . In his first season at Temple Junior College Logan hit .434 and was named 1 st Team All-Conference earning him a spot in the 2006 JUCO All-Star game in Waco , TX . In 2006 Temple won the Region 5 Championship and advanced to the JUCO World Series in grand Junction , Colorado .

Brent Powers LHP Richardson , TX JJ Pearce HS 6'2" 195
In 2006 Brent was an All-District selection for JJ Pearce High School. This past summer Brent was named to the AABC Connie Mack World Series All-Tournament Team for his one-hit performance against the New York South Troy Dodgers. Brent was also invited to play at the Texas Scouts Association game at Ameriquest Field in the summer of 2006. During the summer and fall Brent plays with D-Bat.

Kirk Pritchett RHP/INF Corsicana , TX Mildred HS 6'2" 170
While at Mildred HS Kirk has been named to the All Golden Circle Team 3
times. During his freshman year Kirk was named "New Comer of the Year" in District 2-A after going 5-0 on the mound. During his sophomore campaign Kirk was the "Defensive Player of the Year" for the District. Last season Kirk hit .673 on his way to being named 2 nd Team All State . Kirk plays with the Dallas Tigers during the summer.

Braeden Riley INF Woodville , TX Woodville HS 5'9" 150
For the past 2 seasons Braeden has been name District MVP at Woodville HS. He was also an All-State selection during both his sophomore and junior seasons. In 2006 Braeden hit .581 with 19 triples and 5 homeruns while recording a 12-2 record on the mound. During the summer and fall Braeden played for the S.E. Texas Sundevils.

Matt Shelton RHP Mansfield , TX Mansfield Timberview HS 6'5" 185
Matt was Mansfield Timberview's "Pitcher of the Year" in 2005. Through 42 innings of work in 2006 he struck out 59 batters while walking 15. In 2006 he was also named All-Tournament MVP at the Kennedale and Lancaster Tournaments. Matt was also named the 2006 Perfect Game BCS 18U Open Finals Most Valuable Pitcher. Matt was also invited to play at the Texas Scouts Association game at Ameriquest Field in the summer of 2006. During the summer and fall Matt played for the Ft. Worth Blackhawks.

Cody Springer RHP Montgomery , TX Montgomery HS 6'2" 195
Cody has been a 3 year starter for Clint Heard at Montgomery HS. This past year Cody was selected to the High School Coaches Association Junior All-Star Team. Cody was also selected to participate in the Area-Code Games in Long Beach , California this past summer. Cody was also invited to play at the Texas Scouts Association game at Ameriquest Field in the summer of 2006. During the fall and summer Cody plays with Kyle Chapman Baseball.

Jerad Stephens RHP The Woodlands, TX The Woodlands HS 6'1" 185
Jerad assisted The Woodlands High School team to the 2006 State and National Championships. He was an All-District and All-Greater Houston area selection as well. Jerad threw three 1 hit shut-outs for the Highlanders in 2006 and was selected to play in the 2006 Houston Area High School Coaches Association Junior All-Star game. Jerad was also invited to play at the Texas Scouts Association game at Ameriquest Field in the summer of 2006. During the fall and summer Jerad plays with the Houston Heat.

Mark Wyatt C Houston , TX Angelina Junior College 5'11" 215
Mark was the starting catcher for Angelina College last spring. In high
school he was a 3-time 1 st Team All-District performer at Stratford High
School in Houston . He was also an All-Greater Houston and All-State
selection his senior year.
