Ags, Horns Have Different Motivations

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - While the chance to repeat as national
champion is long gone for Texas, the Big 12 Conference title is
still there for the taking.
For rival Texas A-and-M, it's there for the spoiling.
Eleventh-ranked Texas and the unranked Aggies play tomorrow for
the 113th time in a fierce rivalry dating to 1894. The rivalry has
been decidedly one-sided since the Aggies' last victory in 1999.
A Texas win locks up the Big 12 South and a berth in the
conference title game. An Aggie victory legitimizes the program's
resurgence under fourth-year coach Dennis Franchione
Texas was cruising toward a December 2nd conference title game
rematch with Nebraska before losing to Kansas State on November
11th. Texas hopes it was just a two-week delay of a South Division
title.
If Texas loses, the Longhorns must hope Oklahoma loses to
Oklahoma State on Saturday for their chance to play for the
conference crown.
