ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Baker Mayfield and Colin Lagasse had touchdowns and Kevin Marcotte kicked three field goals as Austin Lake Travis captured an unprecedented fifth consecutive state football championship with a 22-7 victory over Waco Midway on Friday night.
No school in Texas history has won as many consecutive titles as the Cavaliers (16-0). Austin Lake Travis eclipsed the record it shared with Class 3A Sealy (1994-97) and Class 2A Celina (1998-2001).
Mayfield found Griffin Gilbert in the back of the end zone while scrambling to account for his team's only touchdown until Legasse's 2-yard run sealed the game with 4:40 left.
Jacob Standard had an interception and a fumble recovery for the Cavaliers, which denied Midway (13-3) in the school's first state-title game appearance.
