BRENHAM, Texas -- Brenham broke a 14-14 tie in the second quarter and went on to claim a 35-14 Homecoming win over Rudder to stay perfect in 18-4A play.
The Cubs got a big lift from senior Justin Davis, who watched the game from the sidelines. It was his first return to the field after suffering a stroke before the season started. He is expected to be named Homecoming King Saturday night.
Rudder turned an interception and a fumble recovery into two Tre Guyton touchdown runs to take a 14-7 first quarter lead, but Darrion Johnson's second score of the half tied the game at 14.
Brenham's defense shut down the Rudder offense all night as the Cubs pulled away in the second half.
The Cubs improve to 6-1, 4-0 in 18-4A play and will play at Magnolia next week.
The Rangers fall to 2-6, 2-4 and host Willis Friday.
