BRENHAM -- After a slow start the No. 3 Brenham Cubs scored 42 unanswered points to knock off Waller 42-20 at Cub Stadium Friday night.
Waller capitalized on two early Brenham turnovers. Desmond Jordan scored a three-yard touchdown and the Bulldogs added a 47-yard field goal to take a 10-0 first quarter lead.
Brenham answered in the second quarter with two Klartell Claridy touchdown runs and 32-yard touchdown pass on a screen from Dean Havemann to Jerrid Jeter-Gilmon to lead 21-10 at the half.
Havemann added a three-yard run to the end zone to cap a 90-yard drive in the third to extend the Cub advantage to 28-10.
Havemann completed 20 of 24 passes for 324 yards and three scores on the night. The Cubs rolled up 491 yards of total offense.
Brenham improves to 5-0 overall, 2-0 in District 17-4A play while Waller falls to 1-4, 1-1.
The Cubs play at Houston Spring Woods (1-4, 0-2) next Saturday night.
Waller hosts Montgomery (4-1, 1-1) in a key district battle next Friday.
