BRENHAM, TX -- The Coldspring Trojans beat Lorena 13-7 Friday night in a Class 3A Division 2 Regional semi-final game.
Coldspring got the scoring started on a Sherman Gilbert 42 yard touchdown run. Coldspring would lead 7-0 after one quarter.
Lorena had a chance to tie the game in the second quarter. Harris Coleman looked like he would score a touchdown but fumbled the ball just short of the end zone where Coldspring recovered.
Gilbert would add a 69 yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give the Trojans a 13-0 halftime lead.
Lorena would get on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Coleman hit Fisher Simpson for a 22 yard touchdown pass. The cut the Coldspring lead to 13-7.
The score would stay that way late into the fourth quarter. With under a minute to go the Leopards were driving to try and win the game but Simpson was picked off by Colton Moore. He would fumble the ball but J.T. Wilson would recover. Coldspring would run out the clock and pick up the win.
The Trojans advance to the state quarterfinals where they will meet the winner of the Bullard vs West Orange-Stark game. Those two teams will meet Saturday afternoon at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah. Kick-off is set for 2:00pm.
