Consol football season comes to an end in DeSoto

DESOTO, TX -- The A&M Consolidated Tigers (5-6) saw their season come to a close Friday night following a 54 to 10 loss to the 8th ranked DeSoto Eagles (10-1)in the opening round of the State High School Football Playoffs.

The Eagles will score on thier opening drive, easily taking it down the field with Devin Rushing finding the endzone from 3 yards out to make it 6 to nothing. The Tigers were hoping to answer, but instead fumble the ball away on their first offensive play. Tyler Spaw coughs it up and Michael Richardson is there for the recovery for DeSoto.

Richardson, the Texas A&M commitment with a solid night as the DeSoto holds the Tigers to just 64 yards of total offense in the first half.

Following the fumble recovery, Eagle quarterback Raheem Wilson hits Dontre Wilson with a 35 yard touchdown pass. Wilson spins out of a tackle by Josue Ordonez and makes his way to the endzone to make it 13-0.

Consol will have no answer for the Eagles. Still in the first quarter, Devin Rushing scores his 2nd touchdown of the game to increase DeSoto's lead to 20-0.

First year Tiger Head Coach David Raffield told News 3 Sports on Wednesday that for his team to have a chance to knock off the heavily favored Eagles they would have to protect the football.

Next possession for Consol, Jacob Bronowski has his pass picked off and the Eagles turn it into points. Raheem Wilson with his second TD toss of the game going to Mike Davis from 18 yards and 12 minutes into the game the A&M Consolidated Tigers are down 27 to nothing.

The second quarter doesn't go much better for the Tigers, they give up 14 points. A 2 yard touchdown run by Marcus Williams and a 7 yard touchdown pass from Wilson to Ridge Jones making it 40 to nothing at the half. The halftime yardage total was about as lopsided as the score. DeSoto with 308 yards of total offense, while Consol managed just 64.

A&M Consolidated does get on the scoreboard late in the 3rd quarter on a short touchdown run by defensive lineman J.J. Bynum (lined up in the "jumbo set"), but the Tigers would not be able to overcome the 40-0 deficiet.

Tigers lose it 54 to 10 and finish up the season with a 5 and 6 record. Raffield loses 50 seniors off his first team in Tigerland, but does have 24 underclassmen returning who gained some valuable playoff experience this season and will try to build on that in 2012.
