BRYAN -- Copperas Cove dominated the first half and held off the beat up Bryan Vikings 34-14 to remain perfect in District 12-5A play.
Cove did not let Bryan past midfield in the first quarter and used a field goal and a Brandon Williams 29-yard touchdown run to lead 10-0 after one.
The Vikings best chance to score in the first half came after a shanked Cove punt. Bryan took over on the Bulldawg 20 but Cove stripped Kevin Jefferson and Chris Rhoades recovered. Copperas Cove scored ten more points in the second and led 20-0 at the half.
Bryan quarterback Chris Johnson left the game with an injury in the second quarter and returned for the second half on crutches.
Bryan scored their first touchdown in the game on a one-yard Derrick Smith run in the fourth quarter. The Vikings also added a touchdown pass from Zach Alvarado to Tim Willett.
With the loss Bryan falls to 4-3, 2-2 in 12-5A play. The Vikings visit Harker Heights next Friday.
Cove (6-1, 4-0) will match up with 12-5A co-leading A&M Consolidated (4-3, 4-0).
