BRYAN -- Pflugerville Hendrickson held the ball the majority of the fourth quarter and held off a game Rudder Ranger squad 25-18 Friday night.
The Hawks broke an 18 all tie early in the fourth quarter on Samaje Perine's 11-yard touchdown run, forced a Ranger punt, and never gave the ball back to improve to 8-1 overall, 5-0 in District 16-4A play.
The Rangers trailed 18-7 at the half but got a 26-yard Colton Bayer field goal on the final play of the third quarter to cut the deficit to eight.
Rudder recovered a fumble on the ensuing kick off, and on the next play Jamarcus Davenport went 16 yards straight up the middle to pull the Rangers within 18-16. Davenport hit Trent Mitchell on the two-point conversion to tie the game at 18.
The Rangers scored first in the game on a 74-yard Tre Guyton touchdown run, but saw the Hawks quickly answer with a 17-yard Brice Helton to Reid Mitchell touchdown toss.
Rudder falls to 1-6-1, 0-4 with the loss.
Head coach C.M. Pier said, "I'm very proud of 'em. The kids got a lot of fight. They got a lot of fight, they got a lot of pride. We stubbed our toe several times. We've got two ballgames left and we are going to try to win those ballgames."
