BRYAN, Texas -- Elgin made their first playoff game since 2008 count, jumping on Brenham early and holding off the Cubs to advance in the 4A Division II playoffs 44-30 at Merrill Green Stadium Friday night.
Elgin jumped on Brenham in the first quarter, scoring the first 21 points to build a lead they would never give up.
The Wildcats got on the board first when Te'Rel Simmons hit Colin Snell on a 44-yard touchdown pass on fourth down on their opening drive.
After a defensive stop Elgin scored again as Da'Trean Simmons returned a punt for a 14-0 lead. The Wildcats forced fumble and scored again a few plays later to go up 21-0.
The Cubs pulled within 21-7 and 28-14, but never could turn it around and ended their season with a 9-2 record.
