GIDDINGS, Texas -- Hallettsville Sacred Heart scored first in overtime and forced a turnover to seal a 30-23 victory over Brazos Christian in the TAPPS Division IV state semifinals.
Sterling Hrncir scored from three yards out in overtime and the extra-point gave the Indians a seven point lead. On the Eagles possession Jaxton McNair's pass was tipped and intercepted by Casey Jirkovsky to give the Indians their second victory over Brazos Christian this season. Sacred Heart beat the Eagles 34-14 in the district rivals' regular season meeting in Bryan.
The Eagle defense forced three fourth quarter turnovers and Gentry Gayle turned one of them into a one-yard touchdown run to pull Brazos Christian even at 23 and send the game to overtime.
Brazos Christian finishes the season with an 11-2 record.
Sacred Heart advances to the state title game against either Shiner St. Paul or The Woodlands Christian.
