A young nucleus of Yeguas will have to use the experience they gained in 2010 to help Somerville improve in 2011.

“We will be extremely young!” says Martinez. “Having to grow up on the field as we play will be the biggest adjustment for our team.”

In all ten players who started at some point last season will be back, including three offensive linemen who will have to give time to sophomore quarterback Nathan Coronado as Somerville incorporates more of a spread offense this season.

The lone returning senior is Shawn Phallan, who will have to step up and lead a Yegua defense that must improve.

Somerville will have chances to surprise teams, as they will host Thrall and Normangee - the two biggest threats to win the district. Martinez says, “ I truly believe we can be at least a .500 ball club this year.”
