The Cubs will have to replace a number of talented starters, but, as usual, the cupboard is far from bare in Brenham.
Four starters return on offense, and two of them, lineman Adrian Bellard and running back Troy Green, are division one prospects with verbal commitments to Texas A&M. Dean Haveman takes over for Ty Schlottmann at quarterback and will have a proven receiver in Tremund Moore to target in the passing game.
While the offense may take a few weeks to get in top form the defense should come out of the gates as good or better than last season. Eight starters are coming back, led by Longhorn commitments Malcolm Brown, who may be the best defensive tackle in the state, and linebacker Tim Cole. All eight returning defenders earned all-district honors.
Brenham has to play six of their ten games on the road this season, including four of their seven district matchups. The game at Montgomery October 14 may end up being for the district title, but win or lose expect the Cubs to reach the postseason for the eighth season in a row.
