A young group of Cougars will have to step up this season if Leon wants to run their playoff streak to three seasons.
Five players who started some last season on offense return in 2011, led by all-district quarterback Kirby Watson, who is the key to the Cougars opening things up a little this season. “Our passing game should be a strength with a three-year starter at quarterback,” says head coach Keith Sitton. “We will be more perimeter-oriented with more emphasis on the passing game. We are also looking to incorporate more shifts and motion into the offense.”
Four starters are coming back on the Leon defense, which will need the most work after losing a lot of players to graduation.
The Cougars managed a winning record with six road games last season, this time around they will benefit by having six games at home, three of them in district play. Coach Sitton says, “If we can mesh as a team and stay healthy we have the makings of another possible playoff team.”
