The defending 20-3A co-district champion Mustangs only return four starters on offense and three on defense to their 2011 squad.
Madisonville will have to replace 20 graduating seniors, including eight who were first team all-district selections. Morgan feels the strength of the team will be the offensive line, and starters Chris Le and Ethridge Brooks return to anchor the team up front. Colten Long moves from center to fullback and should get plenty of action helping replace leading rusher Dasmine Whaley. Long plays both ways, as does Anthony Manns, who starts at receiver and earned all-district honors at cornerback a year ago. J.R. Gibson had a very good sophomore season and should be even better on the Mustangs line as a junior.
Madisonville once again plays a very tough non-district schedule. Four of their five opponents made the playoffs a year ago, and the one that did not (Caldwell) went 8-2. The Mustangs district schedule is favorable, as three of the five games will be played in Madisonville. If young Mustangs gain experience in non-district play, Madisonville should once again contend for a spot in the postseason.
