Coming off one of the best seasons in school history the Bears will have to reload at key positions to make it an even better 2011.

Montgomery will have to replace all-state running back Leroy Dobbins, who ran for 1,928 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior, and quarterback Tyler Bolfing, who threw for 1,856 yards and 27 touchdowns. The Bears will turn to Ty Taliaferro to lead the team at quarterback, and running back Tevin House had good numbers backing up Dobbins a year ago. Four starters will be new on the offensive line, but tight end Alex Peppe and receiver Devon Gasaway, two key pieces in the passing game, are back.

Three starters are back on defense, with all-stater Jesse Hooper to anchor the line, Henderson Watkins to lead the linebackers, and Cade Scott in the secondary. “Our offensive and defensive lines will have to get better,” says head coach John Bolfing. “We have a lot of new faces in those spots, however we feel like we have some talent there. They are just unproven.”

The 17-4A race may be decided on October 14, when Brenham makes the trip to Montgomery where the Bears will be looking to avenge the only loss that kept them from a district title a year ago. Regardless of the outcome, look for the Bears to reach the postseason for the fourth season in a row.
