Navasota has a lot of big shoes to fill, but expectations are as high as ever for the Rattlers this season.
Guards Kyle Orlando and Autra Maxey are the only two starters back on offense. Honorable mention all-state quarterback Ian Day and honorable mention all-state wide receiver Alfon Taylor are gone to graduation, so replacing the skill positions will be key to the Rattlers success this season. “We have plenty of varsity inexperience on offense,” said head coach Lee Fedora. “We graduated 27 seniors.” Five starters return on defense, two on the line, two linebackers, and one in the secondary.
The defense may have to carry the Rattlers early, as Navasota once again will play a tough non-district schedule against Madisonville (3A playoff team in 2010), Willis (4A playoff team in 2010), and Cameron (2A Div. I runner-up), not to mention 4A Rudder and 3A Wharton.
The district slate will be a bit tougher as well, as the Rattlers will have to play at perennial contenders Caldwell and Giddings this season. Look for Lee Fedora and company to get things together by district play and make yet another push towards the playoffs.
