Fresh off a district championship the Bison have the returning talent to contend for back-to-back 23-2A Division II titles.
Five starters return on both sides of the ball, led by Jose Dominguez. After a great sophomore season Dominguez will move from the line to linebacker on defense. “He was a play maker on the defensive line,” says Read. “I can’t wait to see what he does as a linebacker.” DJ Jackson will lead the Bison secondary while Dominguez and Jonathan Cates team up at linebacker and Canton Calhoun anchors the line.
Read feels his offense could be very good this season. “We have a powerful tailback (Dominguez) with good speed, a power fullback (Dominic Jackson), and explosive speed at the wing back (Travis Cunningham) and quarterback (Tate Hartley) positions. Dominguez will be the bell-cow at tailback, but the other positions can’t be ignored by opposing defenses.”
The offensive line returns two starters in Colton Henson and JD Baxter to lead the way for Bison skill position players.
The Bison play three of their first four games on the road, including a game at 1A power Bremond. However, Buffalo has the advantage of playing three of their five district games at home this season, and that could be a big factor for the Bison as they look for another district championship. District title or not, expect to see Buffalo in the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.
