SHENANDOAH, TX -- The Woodland Highlanders opened their 2011 season with a 56-32 win over Monterrey Tech at Woodforest Bank Stadium. The Highlanders blocked a Monterrey Tech punt in the first quarter to set up the first score of the game. Randy Cooper scored on a three yard touchdown run to give the Highlanders a 7-0 lead. That was the only score of the first quarter.
Monterrey Tech would fumbled deep in their own territory to set up another Highlander touchdown. Cooper Woodyard hit Chris Warren with four yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 14-0. The Woodland would not look back from that point.
The Highlanders will return to action September 2 when they hit the road to face Fort Bend Hightower.
