COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Lufkin outlasted Consol 71-68 in four overtimes Friday to start district 14-5A play with a victory.

Kendrick Mapp went 25-yards to win the game on the Panthers possession in the fourth overtime. Lufkin had held Consol to a field goal on the Tigers first drive of the OT.

Consol led 20-10 at the half thanks to two touchdown runs by Xavier Jones and a 15-yard Jaylan Cheshire to Derrick Dick touchdown pass.

Lufkin turned on the offense in the second half, as quarterback Tyler Stubblefield, younger brother of Texas A&M pitcher Gandy Stubblefield, carved up the Tiger secondary.

The Tigers needed a 5-yard Cheshire to Josh Stewart touchdown pass and a Dillon Moore extra point to tie the game at 45 with under a minute to go. Lufkin took a knee the game went to overtime.

Cheshire scored touchdowns on the ground in the first and second overtimes, but the Panthers scored as well to push the game to a third OT tied at 59.

Lufkin scored first in the third overtime on an outstanding effort by Jamal Jeffrey on a wide receiver screen, but Stubblefield was stuffed by the Tigers on the mandatory two-point try.

Consol tied it at 65 on a Jones run, but Cheshire's two point conversion pass to Stewart fell incomplete and the game went to the fourth overtime.

A&M Consolidated falls to 3-2 on the year, 0-1 in district play. They play at The Woodlands Thursday.

Lufkin improves to 3-2, 1-0 and will be off next Friday.
