BRYAN, TX -- The Navasota Rattlers (15-0) will take on the Gilmer Buckeyes (14-1) in the Class 3A Division II State Championship Game Friday afternoon at 4pm at Cowboys Stadium.

Navasota is making just its second ever appearance in the 3A state title game with the first coming back in 1988 in Waco against Southlake Carroll. The Dragons won that game 42 -8.

There are a couple of players from that 1988 team that have sons playing on this year's team including Kevin Baker who's son Kadarius is playing the same position he played for Head Coach Mike Dacus - quarterback. While Frankie Imhoff's son Will is a linebacker on this year's squad.

"He talks about how they got caught up so much in everything that was going on around them and lost they lost focus," Will Imhoff said Tuesday evening.

While Will broke his ankle in the 4th game of the season (Lexington) he will get to suit out for Friday's game against Gilmer and will make it a point that the team stays focused on the sidelines.

After five seasons of losing in the quarterfinals, Navasota was able to get over the hump this season and is thrilled to get a chance to play for a state championship this season.

"It's a once in a lifetime chance that we'll never get the chance to ever do again," said senior linebacker Jaylyin Minor.

"It's our senior year. We hadn't done it in the last five years with Coach Fedora, but then he has put it together and we've made it!" concluded Minor.

Navasota and Gilmer will kick things off at 4:06pm on Friday from Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net Southwest.
