MADISONVILLE, Texas -- Navasota lit up the scoreboard twice in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a 40-7 season opening victory at Madisonville.
The Rattlers opened the scoring with a one-yard plunge from Howard Horn and built a 13-0 first quarter lead when quarterback Kadarius Baker found Austin Collins from 20 yards out.
Baker hooked up with Jared Sauls on a 19-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter to give the Rattlers a 19-0 halftime lead.
Baker scored from a yard out to extend the advantage to 26-0 in the third before the Mustangs got on the scoreboard.
Navasota stays on the road next week with a tough game at 4A Willis.
Madisonville travels to sixth ranked Coldspring.
