NAVASOTA, Texas -- Defending District 23-3A champion Navasota flexed their muscle early and often in a 53-14 district opening victory over Rockdale.
The Rattlers jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a Jacob Malek touchdown run and and ten yard Kadarius Baker to Solomon McGinty touchdown.
The second quarter saw Xavier Creeks crash in from two yards out and Baker score from 19 yards on a quarterback draw to give the Rattlers a 26-0 halftime lead.
Baker threw his first interception of the season in the second quarter.
Navasota put it away in the third when Baker took it in from a yard out, then hooked up with Austin Collins on a touchdown pass to make it a 40-0 ballgame.
Rockdale got on the board with a Dailynn Ramey kickoff return, then recovered a fumble and punched in a one yard James David touchdown to make it 40-14.
Navasota wins their fourth game in a row to improve to 5-1, 1-0 in 23-3A play. The Rattlers visit La Grange next Friday.
Rockdale sees a three game winning streak snapped and falls to 3-3, 0-1. The Tigers host Smithville next week.
