David Raffield has been named head football coach and athletic coordinator for A&M Consolidated High School , CSISD Superintendent Eddie Coulson announced today.

The CSISD Board of Trustees will meet Friday at 11 a.m. to make it official. The agenda for that meeting is attached and Raffield will be available for comment following the meeting.

Raffield, 47, spent the last eight years as the head coach at Cypress Falls High School, where he led the Eagles to a record of 56-39. Raffield led the Eagles to five playoff appearances, including a trip to the 5A Division II championship game in 2006.

“I am not only excited to be the coach at A&M Consolidated, but I am equally excited for my family to move to a community like College Station,” Raffield said. “I can’t wait to get to College Station.”

Raffield was named a finalist for Coach of the Year by the Houston Touchdown Club twice and has a career playoff record of 11-5. Twenty-four of his former players are currently playing college football and four playing professional football.

As a community and school leader, Raffield was a co-founder of the Cy-Falls Teen Leadership Program and founded the Cy-Falls Athletics TAKS Mentor Program. Additionally, he was involved in the development of the Cy-Falls world history curriculum.

“He is obviously a good football coach,” Coulson said. “But we really like the intangibles David will bring to CSISD. He has also shown the strong ability to teach core values, develop strong work ethic and to promote personal – in both our student athletes and coaches.”

Prior to becoming the head coach at Cy-Falls, Raffield spent 11 years as an assistant at the school. He also served stints as an assistant Pasadena and Alief.

Raffield earned a Bachelor’s in History from the University of Texas in 1986 and his Master’s in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University in 2001.

Raffield and his wife, Cathy, have three children: Caitlin (17), Will (13) and Jake (9).
